Union Power Cooperative will hold its 70th Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, October 3, 2009, on the campus of Wingate University to elect District Directors. The morning’s events will begin at 7:00 a.m. and kick off with a complimentary breakfast and health fair.
Each registered member will also receive a complimentary pack of compact fluorescent light bulbs. Registered members attending the business meeting will have a chance to win cash prizes equaling $2,500.
The Cooperative will distribute $2,500,000 in Member Dividends also referred to as Capital Credits. Members will be able to pick up checks if they have lived on the lines 20 years or more. These checks are given out first at the Annual Meeting. Members who cannot attend the annual meeting will be mailed their check the following week.

Union Power has connected 50 percent of its membership in the past 7 years so it has become increasingly important to recognize the contribution of the cooperative’s newer members. Every member who signed up for service with the cooperative by the end of December 2008 will receive member dividends in the form of a credit on their electric bill.
The Cooperative’s Health and Safety Fair will be one of the largest ever held in Cuddy Arena at Wingate University from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Local organizations have volunteered to provide the latest in health care information and screenings. Flu shots will be available for $30. Medicare patients must present their cards. Screenings also include free cholesterol and blood sugar checks, blood pressure, and more. Members can meet representatives from Carolina Country magazine and Touchstone Energy as well as learn about many other organizations at the health fair.
