Union County Public School's Principal, Mary Jo Breckenridge, Honored By ARC

Union County, NC – Every year the ARC of Union County, an organization that assists Union County citizens with developmentally disabled family members, recognizes an educator who works with students with special educational needs.

The ARC has chosen Wolfe School Principal Mary Jo Breckenridge for this year’s Educator of the Year Award.

Mary Jo Breckenridge

“This year, we are choosing to recognize a person who goes beyond the classroom and not only supports each and every one of the special-needs students who walks in the door, but this person also supports every professional in her building.”

- Melinda Plue, ARC Executive Director

Plue said Breckenridge is also well respected as an educational leader. “Her sense of humor, honesty, warmth and friendliness touch all those who know and work with her. She creates an environment where administration and employees work together in harmony. Her grace, compassion and determination are steadfast, whether she is facilitating an IEP meeting, creating a schedule, teaching a child to tie his shoes, or making time to celebrate a developmental milestone.”

Breckenridge said it is quite a compliment to be chosen. “I have admired the work of The Arc of Union County for many years and was quite honored to receive the Educator of the Year award from them. The Arc of Union County is a great organization, and I am honored to be associated with them.”
