Union County, NC Red Cross Blood Drives For July

Union County, NC

Giving blood might not be a high priority for residents in the summer, but blood donations are very important during these hot months. With schools out, families are on vacation, businesses are short staffed, and life is generally hectic. But the need for blood supplies is just as great in summer as in other seasons.

In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed about every two seconds, and approximately 15 million units of whole blood are donated each year. Because blood can be split into different components, one donation can be transfused into three people.

Only approximately 5 percent of the population in the United States donates blood, though 50 percent of the population is eligible. Donating blood takes about one hour.

Nine blood drives are scheduled in Union County, NC and one is set for Anson County, NC during July, and appointments are not required.
