Tickled Pink Breast Cancer Fundraiser a Roaring (of Laughter) Success!

Tickled Pink Breast Cancer Event. Monroe, NC
Carolinas Medical Center – Union hosted their first ever Tickled Pink for Breast Cancer event last night at Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe last night with over 200 people in attendance. The evening kicked off with with a buffet and silent auction with items donated by Belk, Ballantyne Hotel and Spa, Nordstrom, Renn’s Nest, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center to name a few. After the silent auction was closed the program began with Emcee Julie Scoggins, a professional comedian from Mint Hill, North Carolina (www.juliescoggins.com/). Julie kicked things off by recognizing breast cancer survivors in the audience with the longest survivor there having reached her 19 year anniversary. Carolinas Medical also recognized the person with the most recent diagnosis being only 7 months ago.

The crowd was definitely in the mood to laugh and it didn’t stop for the next hour and a half as performers from the Southern Fried Chicks took the stage. First up was Leanne Morgan, she has appeared as a finalist on Nick at Nite’s Funniest Mom and toured three years with the Southern Fried Chicks. She has appeared in comedy clubs, performing arts centers, and theatres all over the United States and is currently under contract with Warner Brothers and ABC to develop a sitcom based on her comedy. Leanne kept the audience tickled with her routine about being a wife and mother in rural Tennessee (www.leannemorgan.net).

Karen Mills finished out the night for the Southern Fried Chicks. Karen has spent 15 years on the comedy circuit honing her skills. She’s worked with Jon Stewart, written for The Rosie O’ Donnell Show and toured with the Southern Fried Chicks. Now she’s quickly becoming a favorite in the corporate world. Her client list includes American Express, AFLAC, Coca Cola, Toyota and many more. One thing her clients all agree on is that Karen Mills is “one funny girl.” She has also performed at numerous women’s conventions where she’s always a huge hit! But don’t think that’s all she can do, her comedy is friendly and relatable to both genders – in other words, the men love her too. This natural performer has a keen sense of timing and wide range of topics giving her a broad audience appeal (www.karenmills.com).

In closing of the evening Kelly Gullo and Donna Little of Carolinas Medical Center – Union and co-chairs for this event presented CMC-Union President Mike Lutes with a check for over $10,000 to go to the Edwards Cancer Center for the treatment of breast cancer in Union County. The event is planned to be an annual one and one you will not want to miss. And don’t forget to encourage the women in your life to have their annual mammograms done, the best line of defense in combatting this disease!
