Union County, NC – Help celebrate with The Sheperds’ Lodge Ministry by fostering greater community understanding of the needs and rights, accomplishments and contributions of individuals with disabilities.
March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
This ministry is a not for profit Christian organization that was founded in 2008 by Ann Sheperd. They have since been actively supporting the Union County Homeless Shelter together with their family members and church family of First Baptist Church Indian Trail (FBCIT).
The Sheperds’ Lodge Ministry (TSL) also promotes an annual short term mission trip to Trinidad and Tobago. This year they partnered with another ministry in Charlotte for “Love in Action”, where they delivered 368 Valentine’s cards to nearby nursing homes.
Students and children from FBCIT, Union Academy and Girl Scout Troop 2935 helped with making the cards and delivering them. They are a provider of family-like care and service to young and older adults with development and intellectual disabilities. Their desire is to being the cornerstone of Anson County, NC and its surrounding communities.
TSL offer a range of programs and services to meet nearly any need or preference across the developmental and intellectual disability spectrum. They are a service provider, also an advocacy organization and a local charity to grow history of bringing people together to do good work on behalf of special people. Their desire and a heart is for assisting each one of their clients to be the best they can be and achieving their personal centered goal and needs in a secure environment.
According to Ann Sheperd, this ministry was inspired by her son, who also has developmental and intellectual disabilities. She has a heart for this population of people and believes that they need to be treated with kindness and love and accepted in our communities as upright citizens, giving opportunities for better choices with a healthier lifestyle and options, while growing in faith and building on their relationship with our Father God.
