Scoop Movie Review: Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Monroe, NC. Monroe Scoop Movie Review: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I recently spent an afternoon watching the so-called “Most Beautiful Man On The Planet”, Brad Pitt, in his new movie, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. Why did I do it you ask? Mostly because my wife wanted to go see the movie based on the trailers she saw on TV advertising the movie. I reluctantly agreed because the trailers did make the movie and story look interesting. I am not a big Brad Pitt fan. My wife may be, but I am not. I lobbied her to see the new Clint Eastwood movie because I felt like Clint would “make my day”. I got the look, so we headed off for an afternoon of cinematic glory.

After 25 minutes of new movie premiers, (why do they do that?) and a crying baby, the movie finally started. For almost 3 hours I sat mesmerized by “Mr. Beautiful” and this story that is basically a reversal of life as we know it. We all start as babies and get older. What if we started out old and got younger? Benjamin Buttons comes into this world as an 80 year old.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was written in 1921 by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This movie is an adaptation from the original writing. I have not read the original story but based on some of my research, this movie is only very loosely related to the book. The plot line is changed dramatically. That’s ok with me. I knew nothing of the book before I saw the movie anyway.

The cinematography of this movie was stunning and we sat glued to our seats. I found myself reflecting on my own life several times in the movie because so much of it provoked deep thoughts of my own. It was cast perfectly with Mr. Pitt and the story was so believable that I have thought of the movie many times since I attended. I almost never do that and I never see a movie twice because they just aren’t worth it to me. I am looking forward to Benjamin Button coming out on DVD and I will watch it again.

animated thumbs up, Image HostingMy Rating: On a scale of 1-10 scoops, I have to give it 9 scoops. Great story. Great cinematography. Thought provoking. It’s rather long, so be prepared for that. Do yourself a favor and go see it.
