Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park. Mecklenburg County, NC
You may wonder why I’m writing an article about a public park in Mecklenburg County. I have a couple of reasons. Chances are, you spend money in Mecklenburg County and through your expenditures, I’m sure you help financially support the Charlotte Park System. The second reason is that this park is just across the Union County line and it’s a hidden gem that you should go and enjoy yourself.
Features of the park: The park sits on 265 acres and has a beautiful lake stocked for fishing. 2 basketball courts, 6 tennis courts, 5 lighted soccer fields, 2 horseshoe pits. Indoor and outdoor picnic shelters. Walking trails. A playground. Mountain biking trails and a conference center. The park is open dawn to dusk.
I decided to give the readers of the Monroe Scoop a video tour of the park using my Kodak Zi6 HD camera. It’s a small video camera, not much larger than a cell phone. It’s easy to carry, especially when some of the video was shot while I was on the mountain bike trail. I hope you enjoy the video, I hope to do more Z-videos on the Scoop.
