Monroe, NC – After fourteen months away from home, Bravo Battery returns to Monroe from serving in Iraq. The families and well wishers started gathering early at the Armory on Charles St. The Union County Red Cross was in full force helping and feeding and assisting the awaiting families. Updates were announced at regular intervals as to the location of the buses that were carrying our soldiers home. “They’re on 485!” Screams would let out and the little children would get so excited, knowing their Mom’s and Dad’s were getting closer.
Finally the crowds poured outside and into the streets straining to get a first peek at the first sign of arrival. First a distant siren. Next appeared the blue lights of a NC Highway Patrol car. The roar of the crowd signaled the arrival of the big blue buses. The excitement could no longer be contained as the buses stopped and the soldiers poured out of the buses into the arms of their families and loved ones. Welcome home Bravo Battery! Job well done.
