Monroe Police Department to Conduct an “Active Shooter” Training Exercise at Monroe Mall.

The Monroe Mall will play host to local emergency responders in Monroe, NC on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 7:00pm. The Monroe Police Department will stage an active shooter training exercise at Monroe Mall on Sunday, May 3rd. This exercise will include participants from all local emergency responding agencies including Monroe Fire Department, EMS, Union County Sheriff’s Department, Andrews International Security and Union County Red Cross.

This training exercise will be conducted as a “real life scenario” in order to offer local agencies the opportunity to work together in response to an emergency situation that could arise in any environment. “In light of recent events around the country we feel this exercise is more important than ever”, according to Sgt. Rhett Bolen of the Monroe Police Department.

“This training opportunity will benefit all of our local agencies as to how to respond to multiple situations that could occur”.

“Since we are one of the largest public venues in Monroe we were pleased to offer our facilities to our local agencies in order to allow them a chance to train their team members”, Caroline Adams director of marketing for Monroe Mall, “we feel a commitment to our community, and want to do what we can to assist local agencies whenever we can”.

The exercise is set to begin at 7:00pm on Sunday, May 3, 2009 and is expected to last until 9:00pm. During the training exercise no one will be allowed inside the center, however the media is invited to attend and will be allowed access to the center for photographs and video just prior to and following the drill. We also will have representatives from all agencies available for comment and discussion.
