Monroe, NC Police Department Hosts NC Law Enforcement 5K Torch Run. Video Highlights.

Downtown Monroe, N.C.

This past Saturday, June 6, 2009, the Monroe Police Department hosted a 5K run for Special Olympics which was held in downtown Monroe on Main Street. The event was held to bring awareness and raise money for athletes with disabilities in Union County, NC and across the State of North Carolina.

A fun run for the kids kicked off the event. It was held on Main Street that started at the old courthouse and ended at First Baptist Church of Monroe.

There were 42 runners that supported and participated in the run. Our spokesperson for the event was Spencer Morrison. At the end of the race, Spencer awarded runners Field Miller and Brittany Bounds with trophies.

Field Miller was the fastest male runner with a time of 17:01 and Brittany Bounds was the fastest female runner with a time of 26:30.

This was truly a special event for a special purpose and the Monroe Police Department would like to thank all those who participated.

This event is in it’s third year in Monroe and it was a lot of fun. The event has grown each year and I feel honored to have captured it in video. If you are a runner in Union County, NC, make sure that you do not miss next years event. Little Spencer Morrison is a precious child as you will see in the video. This is such a worthwhile cause that deserves the support of Union County. I hope to see you running and sweating for the Special Olympics next year.
