Monroe, North Carolina

Monroe City Manager Wayne Herron announced the hiring of Greg Demko as the city’s new Finance Director/Assistant City Manager. Demko is currently the Finance Director for the city and county of Broomfield, Colorado and has served in that position for the past 13 years. Demko will share Assistant City Manager duties with Downtown Director Brian Borne who was also tapped with the promotion Wednesday.
“We are very pleased to welcome Greg to our team and look forward to having him step into this leadership role not only with our finance department, but also with our city as a whole,”
said Herron. “Greg comes to Monroe with many years of experience, and his reputation as a highly noted and respected finance director in Colorado made him a great fit for the city of Monroe.”
Demko said he and his wife were looking for an opportunity to relocate to the east coast and specifically the Charlotte area and were pleased to find the opening with the city of Monroe.
“We were happy to find a city that was progressive with a committed city council along with a staff that was dedicated to providing excellent customer service,”
Demko said. “Monroe has some great department leaders already in place and I’m looking forward to step in and work together with the established team to help enhance the high level of service currently provided.”
Herron said Demko will begin working for the city either three weeks after he sells his Colorado home, or on Oct. 1. Wilder Consulting of Charlotte assisted Monroe in conducting the recruitment process.
Borne, who has been with the city since June of 2008, said he is excited about the opportunity and looking forward to the new challenges that come with the promotion.
“I’d like to thank the Mayor, Council and City Manager Wayne Herron for the opportunity to serve the City of Monroe and its citizens in this capacity,”
said Borne. “I am looking forward to working with all the talented and committed people and representing a city dedicated to providing high quality customer service to its citizens.”
Borne will maintain his Downtown Monroe responsibilities, and along with Demko, will help shoulder some of the added responsibilities placed on Herron.
“Brian has shown a unique ability to bring groups together in Downtown and I believe he can take that level of unity to the community as a whole in the role of assistant city manager,” Herron said.

[...] City Of Monroe, NC Announces New Finance Director [...]
I love Colorado. Made 1 trip and hiked the Rockies. The City must have made Mr. Demko a heck of a deal. After visiting that beautiful state, I would think it would be hard to leave.
I could not believe my eyes when reading this article. I have never in my 15 years of living in the Carolinas seen anyone move here from my hometown of Broomfield Colorado. I’m confident the city of Monroe has made a wise choice. If Mr. Demko is anything like most citizens of Broomfield County he will fit in very well here. The people are nice in Broomfield but southern charm is infectious. Let me be one of the first to say… Welcome…Y’all.
