Monroe, NC. Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport
The North Carolina Department of Transportation Division of Aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration are collaborating with the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport to conduct Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academies for students entering the 7th-12th grades this summer.
The Charlotte Region ACE Middle School Academy will be held July 13 – 17, with the High School Academy scheduled for July 20 – 24. The camp will run from 8:30am to 6 p.m. each day at the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport. Transportation for field trips and lunches will be provided. The cost per student is $100 to attend.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Monroe, Union County and the surrounding communities with a passion for aviation and aerospace to learn about all the opportunities our seasoned industry cluster has to offer,” said Chris Platé, Monroe Economic Development and Aviation Director. “This camp allows Monroe another chance to enhance it aerospace workforce and prepare for the jobs of the future.”
The North Carolina ACE Academy is an innovative program that can turn sparks of interest into a lifelong passion for aviation, encourage personal development, and help channel youthful enthusiasm toward real opportunities and avenues for pursuing careers in all aspects of the aviation industry.
“The City of Monroe, NC is proud to host the camp for the Charlotte region,” said Monroe Mayor Bobby Kilgore. “We have an outstanding airport that will offer anything and everything these young people need to know about aviation.”
Last summer, the first year of Academies, was a wonderful success, and provided proven schedules and activities for the students. The curricula will include mini-courses on a variety of aviation subjects, interesting guest speakers, visits to tour aviation-related companies, local airport visits, tours of Air Traffic Control facilities, and lots of projects that will whet their appetite for aviation while teaching them about the industry and career opportunities.
“We really encourage students in Monroe and Union County to take advantage of this great opportunity,”
Chris Platé said.
Individuals interested in attending must complete the application by April 1.
